Welcome to our 2024-25 Season!

The Acadia Robotics Program, through the Jodrey School of Computer Science, offers two junior competition programs,

FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge, Grades 4-9, March 15, 2025
Robofest Junior Game, Grades 5-8, March 16, 2025

and a senior competition program

Robofest Senior Game Grades 9-12, March 16, 2025

Our Mission:

Our mission is to provide opportunities for students to expand their computer science knowledge by competing in annual robot programming competitions and related activities that feature real-world problem solving and teamwork.

Outreach provided throughout the season culminates in the Maritime Robot Programming Championship here at Acadia University in March, involving over 400 participants, 150 volunteers, media, and many organizations. We depend heavily on financial support from external organizations and the committed volunteers who annually contribute to the season from late August through to mid-June.

The 2024/25 Season is the 20th Anniversary of the Acadia Robot Programming Competitions!

This year: The Robot Programming Competitions will be an in-person competition hosted at Acadia University. The Robofest and FLL Challenge competition will take place during the RPC weekend on March 15-16, 2025.

Weekly Shout Out from Andrew Elliott

Andrew Elliott has been a long time volunteer for Acadia Robotics. You may remember him as the Assistant Head Judge at the 2020 Robot Programming Competitions on the Robofest day. Andrew received the Lynn Chipman Memorial Outstanding Volunteer Award at the 2019 RPC. He has been an amazing supporter of Acadia Robotics and has worked with us to recruit volunteers from Greenwood base, assisted in training volunteers, and has even volunteered at other Acadia Robotics workshops and fun events for both age divisions.

Andrew's shout out:

"I can’t really pick out any specific memory of the years I was there but overall the biggest thing I miss is the incredible ingenuity shown each year with how the different teams solved the problem or accomplished the tasks. I can honestly say that I learned things every year about programming, logical thinking, engineering, and problem solving that has actually helped me improve as both an Aircraft Technician and in my new role as an Aircraft Accident Investigator. This is why I think this program is such a great program and I hope it continues to grow in spite of the current challenges and comes out the other side stronger than ever so I can come back to it someday."

Acadia Robotics Represented at the ROWC

On September 26^th and October 10^th, four teams from the Maritime region competed in the first ever Robofest Online World Championship (ROWC). To compete at the ROWC, teams first must advance from the 2020 RPC last February. The advancing teams were:

Bomb Ace (King's-Edgehill School)

RNS Crane (Rothesay Netherwood School)

Robinsonsphere (King's-Edgehill School)

Parrsboro Bogey Bowlers (Parrsboro Regional High School)

All of our teams did well competing in a new format on the world stage. During the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 17th our region earned four awards. They are:

Director Gary Walsh Retires June 2020

Our director of Acadia Robotics Gary Walsh retired June 26th, 2020. We were fortunate to have such an enthusiastic advocate for the Robot Programming Championships over the past 7 years. We wish Gary all the best as he moves into retirement. We know whatever Gary chooses for his next opportunity it will involve his love of community.
